Reviews for Daughter of War are in!

I adored this debut! The characters, pacing and plot kept me engrossed throughout the whole thing and I can't wait to see where the series goes.

One of my big problems with the YA Fantasy/Adventure genre is that so many elements seem recycled, but I did not have that issue with this book. There are definitely nods to large series (I'd describe this as the dystopian vibes of Hunger Games, with the intrigue of The Cruel Prince), but the world is very unique and new.

I love Finley, I think she's a great protagonist, and I'm so excited to see more of her character development as she figures out how to reconcile all the parts of herself. Very relatable for someone who was raised by very different parents, or who may be multi-cultural.

Fantasy is not my normal go to genre, so I took a chance with this book and I am SO glad I did. Highly recommend and can’t wait for a second part!

I love YA fiction, and this book is one of the best. The characters are vivid, the plot is engaging, and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Loved this!

This book is amazing. Finley is a great character and her journey had me on the edge of my seat. The world is so interesting and I love the setting and the characters. I can’t wait for the second book!! ❤️

This debut is simply phenomenal! The story invites us into the world of Finley Larson, a fierce fighter with a bigger heart and vision for peace for her people. Set in a war-ravaged land filled with diverse peoples with deep cultural ties, this story immediately reminded me of the world-building in Hunger Games and Shadow and Bone. But Finley has a story all her own, one of determination, courage, finding the best in others despite her traumas, and so much more. There is also some sweet romance without the male characters stealing any of Finley's power (and I can't spoil it, but there's an even more exciting twist at the end!). Overall, the characters, plot, setting and lessons in this novel are all really well done. Plus there are some cool powers, edge-of-your-seat fight scenes, funny friends, and powerful swords. You can never have too many swords. You won't regret picking this book up!

I can't say enough about this book! Great characters and a great story. Definitely need to read for yourselves! I can't wait to see what comes next for the series and definitely need to keep your eye on Coles future work!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Daughter of War by Kelly Cole! I was drawn into the story quickly and appreciated how the author kept the pace moving. Toward the end, I could not put the book down. The main characters were interesting and the descriptions of the various peoples, countries and landscapes were evocative and well done. I would love a map of the lands. An excellent read!
